Hubs
New this year every room (other than those in Taylor Hall) will already have a hub package. This means no more walking across campus and waiting in line to check out a hub.
Hubs are used when there are two or more devices that need to be connected to ResNet. Since every room only has one data jack (excluding Taylor) a hub is used to split that connection.
In each room there will be a packaged Hub. This includes instructions, 3 internet cables, 1 power supply and the Hub.
Instructions
There are two different types, a larger gray 3com hub, and a smaller white Netgear one. They have separate directions.
3Com- Plug a network cable in from the data jack to the port from the right on the back of the hub.
- Plug the network cable from each computer into any other ports on the hub.
- Plug the power supply into the back of the hub and the power outlet.
- Make sure the little white button next to the ports on the hubs is pushed in at all times.
Netgear
- Plug a network cable in from the data jack any port on the switch.
- Plug the network cable from each computer into any other ports on the switch.
- Plug the power supply into the switch and a power outlet.
The hub package stays in your room, even if you move. There will be a different hub in the room you move to. If any part of the hub package is missing upon move out both roommates will be billed for the replacement.
Note: Putting duct tape or any other substance on the hub or cables may result in charges as well. It damages the cables so they can not be used again.
