LAN Technician

The MIO is responsible for all of the Department of Residence Life's technology needs. The LAN team is primarily tasked with the configuration and maintenance of the department's world-class data center. The MIO data center is home to over 25 servers using the most sophisticated hardware and software available. Additionally, the LAN team is responsible for maintaining and supporting the network services and applications running on MIO hardware, including a staff user directory.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, update, and delete active directory user accounts.
  • Create and maintain network shared folders and volumes.
  • Perform best practice maintenance on all equipment to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Research and evaluate new products for possible implementation.
  • Set up and maintain network computers.
  • Participate in ongoing network education.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

  • Extensive experience with desktop computing and computing on the UW Oshkosh campus.
  • Knowledge of specific network based operating systems such as Linux, Windows Server, Active Directories etc.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals and basic TCP/IP concepts.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Schedule:

  • Works year round, full time during breaks and summer.
  • Must have a minimum of 15 hours a week scheduled, with a maximum of 18 per week.
  • During the school year, hours must be a set schedule with in the following guidelines:
    • Monday thru Thursday between 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
    • Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
    • For at least an hour and a half.
    • Four days a week.
  • Be willing to have a mix of morning, afternoon or evening hours if office coverage is needed.
  • During the summer, hours are either 8:00AM-4:30PM or 9:00AM-5:30PM
