Computer Technician
The MIO is responsible for all of Residence Life’s Technology needs. Computer Technicians support the hardware and software for the department, the ResNet connection in the resident halls, as well as the computers labs located in each resident hall. Computer Technicians focus on troubleshooting resident’s ResNet connection and keeping the computer labs in good working condition. The Computer Technician position is only during the 17 week semester, there is no work during breaks and summer.
Senior Computer Technician
The MIO is responsible for all of Residence Life’s Technology needs. Senior Computer Technicians work with the Computer Technicians to support the hardware and software for the department, the Internet in the resident halls, as well as the computers labs located in each resident hall. During the school year, Senior Computer Technicians will be focusing on troubleshooting residents’ Internet connection and keeping the computer labs in good working condition. During the summer they mostly spend time on hardware and software upgrades and cleaning computer equipment throughout the department.
LAN Technician
The MIO is responsible for all of the Department of Residence Life's technology needs. The LAN team is primarily tasked with the configuration and maintenance of the department's world-class data center. The MIO data center is home to over 25 servers using the most sophisticated hardware and software available. Additionally, the LAN team is responsible for maintaining and supporting the network services and applications running on MIO hardware, including a staff user directory.
Programmer
The MIO is responsible for all of the Department of Residence Life's technology needs. The programming department constantly develops new programs to support Residence Life staff as well as the students. The majority of our Programmers develop for our myUWO Student Portal. myUWO is written in ASP.NET using C#. We also develop other websites for the university using Plone, a content management system.
Graphic Artist
The purpose of a Residence Life Graphic Artist is to take the chaotic strands of information given to them and organize them into a clear, concise, and creative graphic solution. Residence Life Graphic Artists work with Residence Life staff (hall directors, assistant hall directors, Community Advisors, LDS, etc) to create posters, t-shirts, brochures and much more.
New Media Specialist Intern Job Description
The New Media Specialist Intern will be responsible for incorporating new media as communication tools inclusive but not limited to fulfilling the photography and video needs of the Department of Residence Life. In addition to taking photos and video, editing them into appropriate materials, the intern will have the opportunity contribute to the Department’s emerging strategies to incorporate new media as a communication tool and an integrated part of the University’s brand.
